The Vein Center has the latest equipment for a detailed evaluation.
Before treatment, a Complete Medical History is taken and a thorough Examination of the Legs is made to determine the extent of your venous problems.
Following the examination a Doppler study study will be performed to evaluate the function of the major valves in the deep and superficial leg veins. This painless test uses sound waves to listen to blood flow.
Triplex/Color Doppler Screening uses ultrasound to see the veins and the valves, detecting the direction of blood flow within the veins and locating incompetent perforator veins that connect the superficial venous system with the deep venous system.
Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT®)
This is an alternative to surgical stripping of the Great Saphenous Vein, the main superficial vein of the leg. A small laser fiber is inserted into the damaged vein through a nick in the skin. Laser light is delivered inside the vein, which cause the vein to collapse and seal shut. The procedure is done in the office under local anesthesia, and is available to the Harrisburg community exclusively at the Vein Center of Central Pennsylvania. Over several hundred have been performed at the Vein Center following FDA approval in 2002 with excellent results. There are none of the risks of hospitalization, general anesthesia, or scars associated with the surgical stripping procedure.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy
This procedure is performed when there are varicose veins on the surface without a diseased Great Saphenous Vein. Local anesthesia is provided along the vein, a nick is made in the skin with a needle and specially designed hooks are used to pull out the vein. Small adhesive bands are placed over the nicks that are too small to use stitches, and typically only a nearly imperceptible puncture scar is noted.

Compression Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is best used to treat small varicose and spider veins. The veins are injected with a very tiny needle using a medication that irritates the lining of the vein. The veins then collapse and are reabsorbed. The Solutions we use Do Not Sting or Burn unlike Saline or Salt Solutions. Veins taken care of in the early stage can help prevent future complications. Laser and light based treatments are generally used only for the smallest veins, require multiple treatments, and are very expensive.

Trans-Illuminated Sclerotherapy
Uses a new technology known as side-trans-illumination or Veinlite, light generated by a halogen bulb travels through a high quality fiber into the Veinlite ring where it's directed into the skin at a fixed angle, providing uniform illumination and visualization of veins.
This method is able to uniformly trans-illuminate a small region of the skin so that much better imaging of the veins is achieved without shadows. Imaging veins during vein access makes for faster and easier access with minimum probing. This allows us to visualize those hard to find feeder veins and spider veins during micro sclerotherapy.

Endovenous Chemical Ablation
The liquid sclerosant is agitated to create a thick solution that is injected in the vein under the guidance of a duplex ultrasound. The thickened sclerosant displaces the blood within the vein and allows the sclerosing agent to be in direct contact with the vein wall for an extended period of time without the dilution effects. The vein becomes irritated and dissolves.
